In addition to teaching reading intervention I am an experienced classroom, music and piano teacher.
The thing that interests me most is how other people think and learn.
I am married to a wonderfully supportive man who never complains about all my dreams and schemes. We have two adult sons and two elderly cats.

WHAT I DO
Literacy experts agree that although there is much that we learn naturally as part of growing and developing, we are not hardwired to learn to read and write. Most children seem to develop literacy skills with relative ease, regardless of the teaching approach, and learn to read and write in the first few years of schooling. Some, however, in the classroom environment, fail to acquire the basic skills and will need additional specialist tuition.
Expert Reading Tuition provides one-on-one help for young children who are experiencing difficulty learning to read and write. I also help parents become confident and skilled in assisting their child at home.

HOW I DO IT
At Expert Reading Tuition, I don’t use a particular programme, approach or learning sequence. Most children who have had one or two years of formal schooling but have not successfully developed age-appropriate literacy skills, have acquired a flawed system of processing and understanding. I'll carefully observe what your child does and doesn’t know, can already do or is yet to learn to do. Every decision about the next step in their learning will be based on these observations.
We all dislike doing things we find too difficult and don’t understand, and children who are struggling with reading and writing are no different. I ensure that your child’s learning experience is always within their current capability, moving from the stage of functioning with assistance to performing the task independently. It is this progressive experience of control and independence which builds self-esteem, is inherently rewarding and is the motivation to keep learning.
